Great maternity figure from the Ovimbundu tribe of DR Congo.
Sculpture featuring a young Ovimbundu woman whose child is sucking on her breast. Both faces with beaded eyes, whose forehead bears a single arabesque scarification, is hollowed out into a heart. As for the hairstyle, it evokes the one, fashioned with oil and red ochre, of young girls nyaneka following the efuko ritual.
