Ancestor figure – Nyamwezi – Wood- Tanzania

Beautiful Nyamwezi figure from Tanzania.

Nyamwezi carvers ar famous for their figures which are usually carved out from a dark, heavy wood with a shiny surface. They tend to have elongated features with the statue`s face divided into two planes and the eyes inset with circular white beads.
The Nyamwezi figure is in good condition with traces of wear and tear. The figure has typical nyamwezi eyes made from beads.

Provenance: former private collection from the Netherlands. The figure is mounted on a iron pin. Custom made stand is included.
