Seated female figures were found in shrines or as part of popular drum ensembles among the Fante / Asante known as Ntan or Ompe. These sculpted figures are prominent parts of the drum stand where large drums leaning on their sides are supported on elevated platforms with sculptures attached to them such as these female figures.
Provenance: former private German collection. Good condition with traces of wear and tear.
