Stylistic male ancestor figure from the MAKONDE people of Tanzania. The wooden statue is beautifully carved with a powerful appearance. Decorated with African beads and leather. Good condition with traces of tribal use and a nice aged patina. The figure stands unstable on it`s own.
The Makonde belong to the Bantu people who originally lived south of Lake Nyassa and later migrated to their present location on the Mueda plateau in northern Mozambique. They survive economically from farming and, occasionally, cattle rearing.
