About this object

This ritual wooden marriage cup from the Congolese SUKU tribe is a rare and tribal object! Beautifully designed doubled cup from which the wedding couple drinks during the wedding ceremony, to confirm their marriage. Rituals were performed to protect the couple against things that could harm their harmony. Splendid hard wood, with a warm dark-brown tint, it is gracefully shaped. Provenance: former private German collection.
