In African art, the Nkisis’ embody voodoo and witchcraft. The Nkisi do not only heal but also protect or promote hunting and/or fishing. It can also be used as a weapon and have a negative effect on the people involved. The nails are hammered into the figurine to activate the spiritual power of the figure.
The figure has a powerful appearance. Items such as this one were used to protect a house. In good condition with signs of wear and old age.
