Powerfull helmet mask from the Suku tribe of DR Congo. The 80,000 SUKU people have lived in the south-western part of the DR Congo (formerly Zaire) since the 16th century. With the arrival of the YAKA and the LUNDA in their territory, they were split into 2 autonomous groups.
Large face masks and helmet masks surmounted by animal or human figures were worn by dancers during certain initiation ceremonies..
Fair condition with traces of tribal use. The beak of the bird figure on top of the head is a bit damaged. Contains a good patina of age.
