Unique and rare head rest from the Senufo people of Ivory Coast. The head rest is carved in the form of a horse, called Syon.
The wooden neck rest is widely used by women to protect their hairdo. When they lie on the support with their neck, there is no weight on the hair which allows the hairdo to stay intact. Good condition with a wonderfull aged patina of use.
Provenance: former private collection from Germany.
