These kind of statues were used in instruction and initiation ceremonies into the five progressive levels of Bwami, the association that Lega men rise through with lifelong learning and deeds.
The Lega ancestor figure contains clear traces of wear and tear.
The wood has traces of corrosion.
The face is covered in Pembe, white clay, each time the item was used, resulting in a beautiful patina.
