Wooden ancestor figure without arms, from the LEGA people of D.R. Congo. This kind of figure was employed during initiation ceremonies, they had a mnemonic function insofar as they assisted in the telling of `ancestor stories`or in the depiction of proverbs. The initiation figure has a heart shaped face. The LEGA figure with spreading legs has a powerful appearance. Good condition with traces of wear and tear. The figure can`t stand on it`s own. This can easily solved with a piece of cardboard.
