Powerful wooden janus figure from the Suku people of DR Congo. The statue has 2 ancestor figures carved in the wood.
Dark brown patina, rising from slightly bent legs, dressed with an apron. Good condition with a great patina of tribal use. Contains traces of libations, decorated with cauri shells and buttons.
Provenance: former private collection from Belgium. Collected in the period 1953 – 1959 (More details provided to buyer).
