Tribal Tetela mask from DR Congo. Their very diverse sculptures are marked by influence of groups living in contact with them: the Mongo, Nkutschu, Binji and Mputu, Kuba and Songye tribe.
Great mask, a geometric nose, open mouth and a full raphia collar form here the embodiment of a tutelary spirit. Powerfull vertical lines with white ochre highlights. Songye`s influence is notable. Interesting mask in good condition with traces of tribal use.
Provenance: former private collection from the Netherlands.
