Beautiful old mask from the Songola tribe of DR Congo.
This African mask of the Songola combines various stylistic indicators of the neighboring tribes, inluding the eyebrow arcades in the heart of the Lega and quadrangular, toothed mouth of the Kumu. Kaoliën residues can be seen on the surface.
This mask was carved in a sublime and rustic style. With a long nose and a mouth all under the mask, rounded eyes. The mask is covered with a kaolin layer. The mask is in good condition with a beautiful aged patina and traces of wear and tear.
