Sylistic Bembe figure of DR Congo. The function of Bembe art is said to be primarily concerned with contacting ancestors and seeking their assistance, which accords in general terms with other accounts testifying to use of figures to endow hunters and warriors with good fortune before combat or hunting expeditions.
Powerful ancestor figure from the Babembe people of DR Congo. Good aged patina with beautifull scarifications all over the body. Clear traces of wear and tear. The left side of the figure contains a crack in the wood and on the back there is a small wooden hole.
