About this object

Great wooden Songye power figure from DR Congo. Stylistic wooden ancestor figure the SONGYE tribe from D.R. Congo. It served to protect the family against diseases, accidents, bad spirits and bewitchment. Large pieces  where even used to protect whole villages. Good condition with a beautiful aged patina and clear traces of wear and tear. Provenance: former private German collection.
