Shrine Figure – Wood – Urhubo – Nigeria

Powerfull wooden Urhobo shrine figure from Nigeria. Large figure, total length: 110 cm, total weight: 15 kg!

The Urhubo people settled north of the Niger river delta and live from fishing and farming.
They carve EDJO figures and ancestor statues – the former is respresented as mythic warrior holding weapons or magical containers. These ancestor figures are usually kept together in communal house where they preside over meetings.
