Very nice NGOMBE Chair. Exceptional patina. Beautiful geometric design. Decorated all around with old copper nails from Belgian Congo. Good condition with traces of wear and tear due to tribal use.
The 120,000 NGOMBE live scattered along the banks of the Lualaba river. The artistic style of their carvings relates to the NGBAKA and NGBANDI, but is less refined and more geometric. Stools inlaid with copper nails are rare and were used as prestige objects
Stools become associated with the spirit of their owner and after the owner’s death are placed in a shrine as a means of communication between generations. Good condition with traces of tribal use.
