Authentic wooden seat from the Songye tribe of DR Congo. In many cultures throughout the southeastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo the seats of leaders are important symbols of power and authority.
The main function of the stool was not to serve as a seat, but rather as a receptacle for the chief’s spirit.
This powerful seat of this royal SONGYE stool is supported by a standing male figure who balance it on his fingers. Good condition with traces of wear and tear due to tribal use. Unique piece, a real eye catcher with a wonderful aged patina on the wood.
