Authentic wooden Tellem figure from the Dogon tribe from Mali. The Tellem are known for their abstract figures with stretched arms. This was seen as a sign for plea for rain. This is an exceptional, appealing figurine, with the arms raised into the air.
Considering its age, the figurine is still in reasonable condition, with a beautiful patina of antiquity. This statuette has “lived well” given its clear traces of intense tribal use.
Provenance: former private collection from Belgium. Collected in the period 1953 – 1959 (More details provided to buyer).
Sold with a certificate of authenticity.
