Description

Masks like these were used in instruction and initiation ceremonies into the five progressive levels of Bwami, the association that Lega men rise through with lifelong learning and deeds.

Material: wood and white pigments (kaoliën).
Good condition with nice aged patina.

Provenance: Ex private collection from Belgium. Collected in the period 1953 – 1959 (More details provided to buyer).
