Zoömorphic Figure – Wood – Lega – Congo

Powerful Lega figure from DR Congo. Zoömorpic figure in the style of a monkey. These kind of statues  were used in instruction and initiation ceremonies into the five progressive levels of Bwami, the association that Lega men rise through with lifelong learning and deeds.The figure is in good condition with traces of wear and tear.

Provenance: former private collection from the Netherlands. Including custom made stand.
