Old wooden elephant animal mask from the Ibo tribe of Nigeria.
This mask is an Obgodo (elephant spirit), carved by the Igbo-Izi people who live in the north-eastern part of the IGBO territory in Nigeria. Note the tusks and the trunk on the front and the loose head on the back. It was mostly worn and exposed in an horizontal way.
Impressive wooden mask with a great patina. Good condition with clear traces of wear and tear. Great color silhouette with use of black and whitee kaoliën.
