Great Bwami headdress from the Lega tribe of DR Congo. These kinds of headdresses were worn by members of the highest ranks of the secret Bwami society, ruling the social structure of the Lega.
These objects were part of the isengo, meaning that they were sacred and therefore, they could only be worn by initiates.
