Beautiful zoomorphic mask from the BEMBE tribe, former Belgian Congo. This type of mask were worn during the initiation proces.
In Bwami society during circumcision ceremonies, flat face masks are worn, showing typically enlarged concave orbits and a triangular nose. Good condition with a nice aged patina.
