Initiation mask – Wood – Ngbandi – DR Congo

African initiation wooden mask form the NGBAKA/Ngbandi people of DR Congo. They are oval and often have a concave face with an elongated triangular nose. The artistic style of their statues and masks, which are related to this specific tribe, is recognizable through their elongated features, a line of vertical scarification on the forehead. Good condition with traces of tribal use.

Provenance: former private collection from Germany. The mask can stand straight without a stand.
